We have been hosts to 2 lovely exchange students for the past week.
Shannen asked me (By Text Message-how things are changing) if we could host the students on a small homestay.......Mika and Sonoka arrived on Saturday Afternoon and filled our house with laughs, slow talking and late night giggles for the past 5 nights.
We visited the Nowra Animal Park on Sunday Morning, and the girls loved the crocodiles and the Kangaroo's. They had their photo's taken with a Koala, had a Python wrapped around their shoulders and held a baby alligator. (which they dropped..."it moved" was their excuse! ) Well Yes it is real!!....
We went to a BBQ on Sunday afternoon and then the girls went to watch Shannen at Rock Estedford on Sunday afternoon. Monday was a quiet night as Shannen had to work but the girls made up for the lost time by sleeping. Dinner Monday saw Mika and Sonoka wanting to help in the kitchen, so the girls helped me prepare dinner. And they again couldnt wait to get back into the kitchen on Tuesday night.
We have just gotten home from the Farewell dinner and it is 9:41 and all the kids are still up and chatting, laughing, giggling and I'm the one ready for bed!!
So here is some facts I have learnt from our little visitors.
- In Japan they do not have Spray cooking Oil's
- In Japan they do not have graters - (you know the type that you use to grate a block of cheese when you underestimate how much pre grated cheese you will need for nachos)
- In Japan, you do not sleep over others houses -as in going to your friends house to sleep the night. Unless it is a cousin or grand parent you stay at your house.
- In Japan Children go to school at 7am and stay till 6pm.
- In Japan the children do not take food to school. They get their meals supplied for them and they do not eat apart from what is provided from the school canteen. Plus the canteen is not like our canteens where you go and buy what ever you like.. they are provided with a meal and that is what they eat for that day........ no snacking either.....
Ok so here are some things that have kept us amused....
Sonoka is obsessed with toilets, she was showing us pictures of her family on her camers and amoungst the 28 photo's there were 14 photo's of different toilets...
The girls love to sit up and talk late into the night. After all my children are asleep and tucked into bed they continue to talk into the night.
Two 14 year old Japanese girls, 1 9 year old boy and a15 year old girl jumping on the trampoline at 10 o clock at night because they have never jumped on one before, and they just noticed it out the back door!
They leave on Friday, and once again I will miss the girls, It is such a pleasure having these young, energetis children staying in our house...
